First Tee

of Lehigh Valley and Berks

On behalf of The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks, we want to thank you for your generous support, which enabled us to serve a record number of children in 2019 (over 350!), to add new locations, and to begin new after- school programs. The contributions that you provided made a difference. We continue to operate with a low cost to serve, which enables us to fund programs for children across the Lehigh Valley and Berks County.

The current COVID crisis has impacted all our lives. We are planning for a future free from COVID when we once again will be able to gather together safely to run our programs, hold events, and enjoy fellowship through the game of golf. The First Tee Board of Directors continues to meet virtually and plan for our 2020 Summer Program in the hope that conditions will allow us to once again serve the youth in the Lehigh Valley and Berks. We are also working on some exciting new initiatives. We are producing a series of videos featuring First Tee kids and parents that will allow our supporters to see and hear first-hand the positive impact of the First Tee. All the time, equipment, and effort to develop these videos has been donated, enabling us to maintain our low cost to serve going forward.

The COVID crisis has forced us to revise the 2020 calendar of events, as follows.

  • The start of First Tee Summer Programs will be delayed. The safety of the children who participate is our top priority and we will not open the Summer Program until it is safe to do so.
  • A decision has been made to cancel the golf tournament at Brookside Country Club that was scheduled for June 15.
  • The Spring Charity Golf Tournament at Woodstone Country Club, originally scheduled for April, has been moved to July 6.
  • The Summer Golf Tournament at Golden Oaks will be held as planned on August 14.
  • The Berks County Friend-raiser at Moselem Springs Country Club has been postponed from April 23 to sometime in the Fall. This new event will feature fine food and fine wine served in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere, along with raffles for themed baskets and our famous “Wall of Wine”, which will go home with one lucky winner.
  • Our Lehigh Valley Friend-raiser will once again be held at The Steel Club on October 22.

We hope that you and the organizations that you represent will once again be proud supporters of The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks. Additional details and registration information for the events is available at:

Due to the fluidity of the COVID crisis, all these events are subject to change or cancellation. Updated information will be posted regularly on the web site.

Also, The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks has started a new campaign on our Facebook page called “First Tee Fridays”. Each Friday throughout the Summer, one of our local First Tee kids will post a video that describes one of the Nine Core Values and what it means to them. These videos are totally unscripted and are made by the kids. Check-in every Friday for a new video on our Facebook Page.

The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks has a mission – we exist to shape a better tomorrow. But in these days of uncertainty, tomorrow can seem a long way off. There will be better days ahead and the First Tee will be ready to serve the youth in our region when it is safe to do so. Stay safe and stay healthy. We will get through the current difficulties together.

With warm regards,

Fred Keller Rick Kline
Executive Director Board Chairman

Nine Core Values

Why is golf different from other sports?

Players learn values like honesty and responsibility by calling penalties on themselves and reporting their own score. By participating in First Tee, youth are introduced to Nine Core Values which are incorporated throughout the program.

At First Tee, kids and teens are learning to play golf along with life lessons and leadership skills. And it’s making a difference. Our programs are positively impacting youth, their families and their communities.

Getting started

Who can play?

First Tee offers group lessons to youth up to age 18 regardless of background or previous experience. Our coaches are trained to make kids feel comfortable and assure they have a positive, non-intimidating experience. All we ask is young people come with an open mind and positive attitude.
